Tracing your family history is fast becoming a favourite pastime for many but where do you start?

During National Family History Week Orange City Library is hosting a one hour seminar titled "Tracing Your Family History A Beginners Guide" to help family historians get started on the right path.

You can discover all the best tips and resources to begin researching your family history at Orange City Library on Friday 7 August from 2pm to 3pm. To book your place, please call the Library on 6393 8132.

Orange City Librarian Elizabeth Barry says people often come into the Library to begin family history research but don't know where to start. The other concern is that people researching family history can easily be distracted by information that is interesting but not related to their family.

This seminar will help people get started in the right way and to stay on track when researching. There are simple steps we can take to make family research accurate, rewarding and fun. It is so easy to be sidetracked by different family names, spelling variations, occupations, locations or overwhelmed by information, so this seminar will help participants stay organised and focused.

Participants in the seminar will also learn about useful family history resources from catalogues to newspapers, websites and photographs.
